"Woman and Dog" sculpture

Dr Alfred and Mrs Ada Salter, who dedicated their lives to improving the lives of the people of Bermondsey, with their daughter Joyce and the family cat. Sculpture by Diane Gorvin unveiled in December 2014. The original group created in 1991 depicted Dr Salter waving to Joyce but the statue was stolen for scrap in 2011. A new statue of Dr Salter was commissioned along with an additional sculpture of Ada, the first woman mayor in Britain, to join the original statue of Joyce. 50% of the cost of the new statues was raised by donations from the public.
